YC service project a sucess
In between bickering, complaining, and telling lame jokes, we painted three lobbies in Raven Estates, for the Interior Housing Authority. On the behalf of the entire Youth Commission, I would like to thank Thom and Torie Foote, for the BBQ, painting tips, and all the help they provided. I would also like to Thank Andre' Layral for helping us paint as well as his "Little Brother" Charles. We would also like to extend a thank you to Brenna and Amy for helping us out with the Painting. Kelley and Lars were there, modeling their new, beautiful Youth 4 Action T-shirts, the official T-shirt of Youth Commission. Lars and Kelly get fired up about community service
Just being there was (for me) an eye-opening experience. I had never seen people living in poverty before, just struggling to get by. In the long run painting a few lobby's seems insignificant, but I am glad that we did whatever we could to make some people's life a little bit better, for those who need it most.
What can Youth Commission do to get people motivated by this? We represent the younger half of the FNS Borough. We were founded on the idea that youth have something to say, that the population that cannot yet vote has something irreplaceable and special in our culture and society. Our portion of the population is among the most empathetic, motivated, and defiantly the most dynamic slice. With this in mind, what is there that can be done by students, by those under 21 to help others-as a group and as individuals?
